In mythology it is said that Holi is a celebration of the divine love of Radha and Krishna. According to legend, young Krishna, who was dark-skinned, was envious of Radha’s fair complexion. His mother, Yashoda, playfully suggested that he apply color to Radha’s face to see what she would look like in his color. This playful act evolved into the tradition of applying colors during Holi.
